Young Pharmacists Rule

I've been around for a while, so I can understand what young chain-pharmacists go through on a daily basis - constantly getting knocked down by everyone - their customers, their co-workers, and even their supervisors. They get it from all ends. It's tough work, and it's a chore to deal with every day.

So, it's understandable that the only way they can deal with the daily stress is to get together with their colleagues after work, have some fun, throw back a few drinks, focus on the positive aspects of their job, piss the night away, and try to get motivated for the next day.

I don't know how long they'll last doing it, but you've got to admire their consistent youthful tenacity.

  1. Of course, all pharmacy students fall into this category of unbridled optimism, which carries into their first few years on the job.

But who would have known that it extended as far as the pre-pharmacy students?

  2. I see that this post is one that's visited often. So, let me share this one piece of advice to all of my younger recently-graduating pharmacist colleagues

For whatever behind-the-scene personal agendas people harbor, you're going to encounter MANY other pharmacists or healthcare professionals in your career who are going to try to convince you that you aren't "good enough" or don't measure up to their standards. As such, they are going to try to make your job more difficult than it should be for no other reason than jealousy or pettiness.

DO NOT BUY INTO THEIR HATE.

While you might not realize it until later in your career, most of them are only trying to make your life miserable because they've been treated in the same way and feel the need to perpetuate the hate, or because they're upset about their own insecurities, shortcomings or unhappiness in life.

But believe me. If you are a responsible and caring pharmacist, and put your patients' needs before your own, you are WAY ahead of game.

If the MANY blog posts that I've written so far about the dark side of healthcare and human nature haven't convinced you that just by controlling your negative emotions (like fear, greed, and hate), that yes, YOU ARE A GOOD PHARMACIST, then consider this recent news report - GP filmed himself groping 300 women using secret James Bond-style camera hidden in a watch.

  3. And although I may be cynical in respect to the quest for more money being the driving force behind many peoples' actions, I do admire the young retail pharmacist who finds happiness in counting by fives. Yes, there are some of those around. But, don't just take my word for it, see for yourself.
