Papal Conclave Countdown

According to a Chicago Tribune news report today -
Cardinals will hold a final pre-conclave meeting on Monday to discuss the state of their Church, left reeling by the abdication last month of Pope Benedict and struggling to deal with a string of sexual abuse and corruption scandals.
Along with other social issues, these sexual abuse scandals and corruption charges have wreaked havoc on Church membership. Although the Catholic Church still has millions of followers worldwide, many of it's faithful followers have become disillusioned, and many have been leaving in droves.

So, word in the street is that Church leaders also decided to send out their special Vatican reporter this weekend in order to educate non-Catholics about how the concept of Purgatory works, and to try to convince them why they should convert to Catholicism.

  1. LOL! It sure seems that way, but I don't know. Maybe a Penn State supporter could provide more insight.

  2. If you're anything like me, someone interested in how and why the numerous crimes against humanity occurred during the Argentina "Dirty War", and have plenty of time on your hands, then the best document to read first would be the 1984 Report of CONADEP from the Argentina National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons. It seems to be the least biased report I've read.

Be forewarned - it's very graphic and very sad. Especially the reports where doctors and nurses had roles in the "disappearances" and torture of innocence people, including some of their own colleagues.

  3. I can't remember a single case of a pedophile nun, a single case where a nun sold out the lives of one of their own to the fascists for administering to the poor in Argentina, a single case where a nun was involved in a fatal hit-and-run, or a single case where a priest was excommunicated for making tough ethical choices about life and death.

Yet, the Vatican feels the need to crack down on these corrupted women.

  4. It's a good thing that the Vatican reaffirms plans to scrutinize U.S. nuns. Who knows the depths of their hypocrisy and corruption, or what kind of crimes they're capable of committing without the Vatican's leadership?

"Files released by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee on Monday reveal that in 2007, Cardinal Timothy F. Dolan, then the archbishop there, requested permission from the Vatican to move nearly $57 million into a cemetery trust fund to protect the assets from victims of clergy sexual abuse who were demanding compensation."
