Ricki Lake Thinks I'm Fly

Except for my man, Jerry Fahrni, I don't get much feedback or linkage from other pharmacists, or bloggers who "call" themselves pharmacists. It seems as though they think I'm anti-pharmacy and refuse to acknowledge my existence in hopes that I'll disappear from the blogosphere.

Personally, I think they refuse to acknowledge me and my blog because I speak the truth about the profession, they're afraid I'm right about my views and opinions, and what I have to say scares them.

It seems to me that they prefer pharmacy bloggers who sit around the campfire in a circle-jerk while singing Kumbaya and telling each other how great they are, and how much their patients suck, while their profession is slowly being stolen away from them. But, that's just my opinion.

So, I wasn't fully caught off guard when I received a video email this Octoberfest from the anonymous blogger who calls himself "The Redheaded" pharmacist, telling me what he/she thinks of my efforts.

Luckily for me, both Ricki Lake and the Plan-B girls (Camila, Cryselle, Errin, Jolivette, Kariva, Levora, Seasonique, Trinessa, and Yasmin) still think I'm fly.

  1. We're not scared, we just find your views too negative.

  2. Yea, you're right. I'm sure that has nothing to do with what George Carlin told me right before he passed away.

  3. You know? I don't mean to sound so negative. It's that life's experiences have taught me to think this way.

I haven't responded to your comment thoughtfully (and without kidding around) quickly because I've been trying to come up with a good comment that explains my cynicism in the way I think in a way most people haven't considered.

So, before you think me "too negative", consider the following -

    1. What's the age of the ancient philosophers that people often quote? If you review "anything" that's written about them, or even look at their statues, you'll notice that they're always middle-aged or above when they're referenced or considered scholars.

    2. Cynicism is based upon experience and age. You will NEVER see any young people being referred to as cynics. And there's a reason for that.

    3. IMO, cynicism is a percentage game. For example, a child of 10 years will believe 100% of what they're being told. Yet, a sixty-year old man will believe only 10% of what he's being told. Cynicism is based upon life's experiences.

I love young people. Nothing makes me happier than looking into a young person's face and seeing all of the ideal expectations they assume at that age. I often wish that I was that naive, and wish that I didn't know any different.

So, as you can see, the "perception" of cynicism changes with age.

You think I'm negative because you are young. Your perception of the world is probably that 90% of the people are kind, ethical, altruistic, and will always "do the right thing".

At my age, I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. Experience has taught me that only 10% of the people are kind, ethical, altruistic, and "will do the right thing". I know that people can't control their behaviors.

Unfortunately, as much as I'd like to see the world through your eyes, I can't.
